5 Tips to Improve Your Long Shots
Calculation of specific shots, working toward the perfect posture and concentrating on every hit may not be enough to get the long shot that you want. If you are trying to get more distance from your swing, then following specific procedures can help you to get a stronger and longer hit for your golf ball. Following are the top five changes that you can consider to cover more distance in your long shots.
- Watch your stance : Most who are trying to hit for distance will focus on the swing. However, the preparation through the stance is just as important. Your weight should be on your right foot and your toes should be pointed out. This gives you the aim you need to follow through with your movement, while providing you with more strength.
- Wrists and grip : To follow through with more strength, you want to make sure that your wrists have control. These should hinge when you are at the top of your back swing. Your grip should also be strong, but should not hold pressure, as this will direct energy in the wrong direction.
- Where are you bending : You should make sure that your arms and hips don’t bend in the wrong place. For instance, you don’t want your left arm to bend back when you are at the top of the back swing. You also want to make sure that your hips stay straight and parallel to your swing, instead of bending before you move into the next position.
- The downswing : When you are at the top of your downswing, you will be able to gain the strength needed for the hit. You should make sure that your downswing doesn’t lead to lifting your foot early or into an incomplete movement. While you are moving down toward the ball from this position, you should ensure that you start slowly to gather power and want to point the butt end of the club toward the ball. Each of these approaches will add more strength into your hit.
- Know where your impact is : You will be able to add more power to your swing by focusing on the impact of your hit as it is moving toward the ball. Rotating your shaft through impact and focusing on maximum speed when the club passes the ball, not before impact, will both generate more power.
With a focus on preparation, the downswing and specific movements, you will be able to add more power to your golf swing. By doing this, you will have the ability to hit the ball to more distance and strength, while gaining closer focus on getting to the green.
