Mickelson Wins The Tour Championship: Woods Gets $10 Million
On Sunday Phil Mickelson won the Tour Championship with Tiger Wood finishing at the second spot. Mickelson made a spectacular rally, closing with a 5-under-par 65 to go from four shots behind to a three-stroke victory. Phil was two back of Woods but finally finished three up. Tiger Woods did hit two late birdies but they were not enough to beat Mickelson; however, they did good to win him the FedEx cup and its $10 million first-place bonus. Mickelson gets $1 million too.
Phil Mickelson also collected a $3 million bonus for being second in the FedEx Cup points race. This was his third victory of the year and the 37th of his career; also this takes him to the second position in this week’s Official World Golf Ranking.
For Tiger Woods it is a year of great recovery. The FedEx Cup win marked the end of a season where he won six times and finished no worse than second position in 9 of the 17 tournaments he played – and all these after he returned from a knee injury.
