November 2, 2009 was a night to remember for golf fanatics everywhere. The new inductions into the Hall of Fame were introduced, with several older Hall of Famers sharing their experiences, and new inductees taking home the highlights for the evening. The ceremony was held at the World Golf Village to honor those that are making new strides in the world of golf.

There were four new champion winners that were asked to join the Hall of Fame. The first was Jose Maria Olazabal, a golf professional from Spain best known for the winning the Masters champion two times. Olazabal is also known for winning the Ryder Cup with an 18-8-2 win. The second inductee was Christy O’Connor Sr, a Ryder Cup champion. At the age of 84, O’Connor is still playing golf in Dublin, while showing his true spirit and love for the game.

The other two that were honored for the golf Hall of Fame were Lanny Wadkins, a PGA Champion. He is known for winning this championship 21 times with a 20-11-3 in the Ryder Cup. President Dwight Eisenhower was also honored at the ceremony, and his award was accepted by his close friend Arnold Palmer. Eisenhower was noted for his love of the game of golf as well as his interest that he supported while holding office from 1952 – 1960. It was said that this allowed golf to move into higher professional levels and into the current status of the game.

Other noted champions that were at the ceremony included Louise Suggs, Carol Semple Thompson, Charlie Sifford, Carol Mann, Marlene Stewart, JoAnne Carner and Deane Berman. All were recognized for their past wins and for the contributions and changes they have brought to the golf championships.
