Golf Aids- Tools That Aid Your Game of Golf
Besides the various equipments a standard game of golf uses, there are other tools too that aid the game. The equipments include golf balls, golf clubs, ball markers, tees, golf bags, golf carts, towels, club head covers and ball mark repair tools. Along with them, a few other tools such as a ball retriever, rangefinders, stroke counters, special golf player’s attire, positional guides and ball washers help make the game more easy and comfortable to play. They are just like having luxury Jacuzzi fittings attached to a normal bath tub, making the game more fun.
To list a few uses of these aids, the ball retrievers are a kind of telescopic poles that with some sort of a device at the end. They are used to scoop up or trap golf balls, especially from a water hazard.
Rangefinders are incredible devices that help a golfer to find his or her exact distance from the hole. They are common in recreational golf but are illegal in tournaments. A typical rangefinder is an optical device that uses a complicated process to estimate the distance. It uses a calibrated focus control where the user sights the target, brings it into focus, and reads the distance mark on the focus control. Latest rangefinders operate by focusing on any target and then pressing a switch to obtain a very precise distance reading via radar. Also, newer golf carts include a GPS tracking device which in combination with an electronic map of the golf course, serves a similar function.
Stroke counters are literally counters which keep a track of the number of strokes a player has played. They can be used for counting them in a hole or an entire round, or both. The simplest ones are known as thumbwheels or “clickers” in which a player advances the wheel by one after every stroke. It provides the total number of strokes for scorecard after each hole. Latest and advanced variations, called as electronic scorecards, have various degrees of computational power added and can keep score for multiple holes, total scores, and keep track of over/under par statistics.
Positional guides help in improving a golfer’s stance or swing. A few lasers are attached to the shaft of putter which projects a “putting line” onto the ground. Also, specialized tapes are attached to the club head which provide information about how the head is hitting the ground or the ball. This is helpful for future correction or club adjustment. They are also illegal in competitions.
A proper attire enables a player to feel more comfortable both weather and adjustment-to-stroke-wise. A ball washer, as its name says is used to clean golf balls. Special care needs to be taken while using these aids because a few of them are illegal for competitions but are invaluable in practice sessions.
