Excerpts shared by members of the New York Times, suggest that Haney states in the book that Tiger may in fact have injured his ACL during the stint with the Seals. This may or may not be a factor considering Tiger won five tournaments in 2008. It was said that he worked out with the Navy Seal team in late 2007. In the reviews of the book suggestions are that it was well written and focuses mostly on Haney and Woods’ relationship, apparently more of a working relationship than a friendship base. Going back to the Popsicle story, often times when they were spending time at Tiger’s house he would grab himself a popsicle, but never once asked Haney if he would like one. Haney had too much respect to help him, and at one point stood up and requested “Hey do you think I could have one”? Some think this is a stab at the misguided social skills Tiger had.

Parts of the book also touch on the relationship between Tiger and his ex-wife Elin Noredgren. Haney suggests that their relationship was off for some time. And that it only seemed true at the dating stage. Even then time spent together was ‘awkward’ and Tiger insisted that Elin hold her emotions in check even when he was winning. Another example; when Tiger won a tournament, Elin wanted to hold a big party to celebrate. Tiger refused stating ‘we don’t do that, we’re supposed to win”.

So love Tiger or Hank or hate them, this book should be an interesting read. I am guessing that there was some creative marketing behind having its release one week before The Masters.

Pro Golf instructor Hank Haney began working with Adams which initially focused on customized clubs for every golfer. Haney at the time was running a golf shop called the Hank Haney Golf Ranch.

Working together they created the Adams Tight Lies brand. With Haney aboard, and legendary golf host Jack Whittaker promoting the product on television and print the business exploded. The fact Haney was then coaching Tiger Woods likely didn’t hurt either.

Through the mid to late 90’s the company became very successful and went to public offering , on Wall Street. In ’99 Adams was awarded the Golf Club Manufacture of the Year Award. This morning after speculation for the last few months TaylorMade golf announced that it was purchasing all shares to the company for a total of $70 million. Adams has had a firm grasp over the past few years with regard to the ever popular hybrid clubs. High handicap golfers as well professionals tend to sway towards the Adams product. This is something that TaylorMade has been focusing on for some time. I personally use an Adams Tight Lies 4Hybrid I find it to be extremely forgiving and good for about 220 yards.

I would say this was a sound investment for TaylorMade considering a search on sales for 2011 show Adams sold over $96 million in merchandise.

Rory McIlroy was born in Northern Ireland in a town called Holywood which is located in the County Down. He held his first golf club at a year and a half and his father taught him the game early on. Interestingly the senior McIlroy, Gerry was also a very good golfer playing to an even handicap.

Rory’s Dad new early on that his son had the focus and drive to become a professional golfer. He spent hours with him and watched as he bloomed in to the best golfer in the world. Just last week after winning the Honda Classic he became the World’s number one ranked player. When Rory was 15 years old his father was working as a bartender in a pub, he and 4 pals decided to place a wager on Rory to win the Open Championship by the year 2014. Each man threw in one hundred pounds and bookmakers game them 500-1 odds. Quite the gamble and quite the payout if he indeed does pull it off.

Rory McIlroy joined the ranks of professional at the age of 17; he was the youngest player ever to crack the top 50 which came in 2008. As Rory became more and more popular he had numerous sponsorship offers. People often ask “what kind of golf clubs does Rory McIlroy use”? The answer is Titleist who has been his sponsor for a number of years.

With the Masters just around the corner it will be interesting to see how Rory makes out this year. His career seemed to take a turn after his colossal collapse in the 2011 Masters Golf tournament that saw him blow a 4 stroke lead heading in to the final round Sunday. We learn from what hurts the most, and it seems Rory learned well as he has been nothing but stellar since that painful defeat.

The tournament is fairly private and very country club style. It is not open to the general public, and only members of the courses, private guests and residents of the community are allowed in to watch the event. Over the two day period the teams match up against each other playing single man stroke play. Points are awarded based on total team score. Last year Nona won with a score of -43. There is a solid prize purse that last year totaled $2.15 million dollars. Every year there is a designated long drive hole throughout the tournament. There is a separate prize for this in the amount of $60,000 which is split among the winning team. My money is on Gary Woodland this year.

This year the Tavistock Cup will be held at Nona GCC. The entire event will be covered by The Golf Channel and is quite entertaining to watch.  It will be interesting to see if Tiger is healthy enough to play in this tournament. The Tavistock Cup may be a great spot for Tiger to test the leg as there is nothing more than pride on the line.

One of the most exciting news is that Paul Lawrie has been awarded with European Tour Golfer of the month this February’2012. An astonishing success in the Qatar Masters was one of the main reasons for this recognition. His great golfing skills at WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship in Arizona contributed a lot to his success. This is the second time in 12 months that he has been awarded with golfer of the month award. Paul’s an enthusiast golfer and is looking forward for WGC – Cadillac Championship in Florida. Also, his son Craig is participating in Scottish Boys Championship next month. Seems to be a family of wonderful and brilliant golfers!

Was the decision to recognize European Tour Golfer of the month easy? Off course not! With so many experienced and leading candidates, it was difficult even for the judging panel to come to a decision. There was a tough competition between Rafael Cabrera-Bello’s and Paul Lawrie. It would not be wrong to say that Rafael Cabrera was another most deserving candidate with his brilliant golf strikes in Dubai recently.

There are various championships and tournaments coming up in the month of March too. To name a few, its “WGC – Cadillac Championship” on 8th March in Florida, “Open de Andalucia” on 15th March in Spain, “Trophee Hassan II” on 22nd March in Morocco and “Sicilian Open” on 29th March in Italy.

You couldn’t get a better chance to enjoy best in class golfing walking by the rolling golf trolleys and spend the best time of your life. Just pack your bags and be ready to catch the action!

“Accenture has made a decision to not continue with their sponsorship. We are disappointed but respect their decision,” said Mark Steinberg, Woods’ agent.

Though Accenture and Gillette has decided to move out of their sponsorship agreement, Nike, Electronic Arts and Tag Heuer stood by Tiger and also the US telecom giant AT & T is still evaluating the relation.

Till the time the scandal broke out Tiger Woods have been one of the prime targets for major corporations and has earned a fortune from all these sponsorship. Now that the scandal has already tarnished his image some brands trend to drop him but more importantly his decision to take a hiatus from golf might be influencing their decision all the more.

I think Tiger’s moving out of professional golf would be a big blow to the game and PGA would be hit hard. Tiger actually had admirers even among non-golfers and many people would watch the game just for the sake of Tiger. Now that he has declared to move out of professional golf, it is to be seen if PGA as well as the other tournaments adopt to any damage control mechanism.

If not for a triple-bogey six at the par-3 17th hole in his final round, Daniel could have won the tournament with a much higher margin. This week was extraordinary for Brooks and his performance stood out among all the other golfers.

Tony Jacklin ( The 1970 U.S. Open Champion) handed over the winners trophy to Daniel Brooks. Besides the trophy the winner also took home a 10,000 € check and an invite to the Hassan II Golf Trophy in Morocco.

Julien Foret, the French golfer also managed to hold on to his second position from the first round while the other co-seconds from the first round did fall off. Swede golfer Jens Dantorp (71) on -7, 209 finished in third position.

Brooks marked his presence when he birdied 6 of his final 7 holes which included 5 birdies on the spin, to move a commanding 5 shots ahead of the field.

James Ruebotham, Andrew Thorpe and Lee Corfield are tied at the second position after the first round along with Julien Foret from France and Christian Aronsen from Norway is in the third position.

Michael Thompson finishes the tournament with a 54 hole aggregate score of -18, 198 to take home a check for $12,462 for this win.

Scotland’s Russell Knox birdied the third, fifth, 12th and 17th holes but bogeys at the ninth and 11th cost him a top-10 finish. He finished T13 with a seven-under-par total of 209 after rounds of 70, 69 and 70 to earn $1,913.
