The tournament field is filled with all of the best golfers past and present, and once you win a green jacket your able to come back and play in the tournament every year. Players that have won the US Open, British Open, and the PGA Championship in the last 5 years are all automatically invited. If you’re lucky enough to get in the field and can place in the top 16, you will also be back the following year.

When I first tried to play the game in a nearby golfcourse, it really seemed like a daunting task to me! I learn’t a lot of things while exploring my golf interests. Playing golf is a wonderful hobby, pretty enjoyable, very relaxing, but it is very crucial that we learn to match and allow other course users to enjoy their game as well.

Golf is a gentlemen’s game and should be play in the right spirit! If you are new to the game of golf or even if you are a pro, it might be worth to read these 5 tips on golfing etiquette to ensure that not just

you but everyone around you are able to get the maximum enjoyment out of their game.

1. Be Punctual – Except for few golf fanatics like us, who spend hours on the course, most people like to hit the greens along with friends / in a group. If you are playing in a group it is advisable that you should always be on time, prior to the start of the game. Being late and slowing down the game for your group and other groups after you, is not at all a gentleman’s practice! So, don’t be late and if possible, book a ‘tee’ time for you.

2. Carry the Equipment you need-  A golfer is generally allowed  a maximum of 14 clubs on most of the golf courses. So you should confirm that you have best selection of clubs before you start the game. Also make sure that you carry plenty of spare balls in your golf trolley because as my experience goes, you will probably loose plenty of them during your initial games anyway.

3. Be aware of the dress code– Before you visit any golf courses for the first time, please ensure you know the dress code of that golf course. While most of them do allow some casual dressing, often times clubs have their own set of dress codes. It is always advisable to call up the concerned golf course authority and checking what rules they have. Knowing your dress code for each golf course will save you from embarrasments andstanding out as a newbie.

4. Do not move the ball–I, too, made this mistake. As a beginner, I have made some awkward bad moves like I touched the ball and moved it from its position while I was not supposed to do so. Golf rules are pretty clear and we must abide by those. Wherever or however your ball comes to rest, that is how you should play it. Sometimes it may feel tempting to just nudge it along a bit, but we shouldn’t fall victim to our temptation. Rules, are rules!

5. Out of bounds – When your first stroke with the golf stick results in your ball going out of bounds, you should tee off one stroke again with the second ball. If you find the first ball within the bounds, then you can play normal,ignoring the provisional ball ( second ball). So it is advisable to keep a provisional ball, if you lose your first ball ( going out of bounds), to ensure that there is no delay in the game flow, as other co-players are also involved in the game.
